ここに住む人と遠方の方々、個人と地元企業、専門家とアマチュアを集め、みんなでふるさと・コミュニティを発展させます。

Loving the charms of the Nakagawa Unga (Nakagawa Canal) means wanting to discover more about it!
The Nakagawa Canal is a cityscape that has witnessed the rapid economic growth of the Nagoya region, for which it played a key role as a central water way until the 1960s. Today its charm lies in the unique mix of large warehouses, spontaneous greenery, and residential areas with tiny family businesses still including some old village nests from the area’s pre-industrialization period.

The Nakagawa Unga Gallery creates art, conducts research and offers workshops and fun activities. We talk and learn about the Nakagawa Unga through our exhibitions, city walks, talks and publications.
By involving those who live here and people from further afield, individuals and local businesses, professionals and hobbyists, we are developing a 'hometown community' together.
If you want to get involved with the Nakagawa Unga, or generally if you are interested in the topic of 'cityscape': We are looking for friends!
We are a small community along the old Nakagawa Unga in the heart of the manufacturing region of Nagoya. You can have a look or make something yourself. Stop by, get involved, contribute and help make things better!

名古屋の今を何気なく見るのとは違う数多くの名古屋について書かれた歴史資料があります。そこに映し出された名古屋の人々と暮らしを解き明かしておられる皆さんによる座学です。

「尾張名所図会」と「尾張本草学」
そして名古屋の自然と人々の暮らし
1st Lecture
“Famous Places of Owari”, “Owari Botanical Herbology” and
Nagoyas Nature and People’s Lives.
第一回目は 自然観察指導員で高校生物の先生による解りやすい江戸の頃の名古屋の自然と人々の暮らしの話です。
尾張の名勝、古跡、風俗、名産、神社仏閣などを絵と平易な文章で説明した地誌である『尾張名所図会』 著者は西枇杷島の青物問屋主人で教養人の野口道直(梅居)及び尾張藩士で学者の岡田啓(文園)。 挿絵は尾張藩士で画家の小田切春江 『尾張名所図会』に描かれた名古屋の植物と人々の遊興も含む日常生活を見つけます。
『尾張本草学』とは、 草、つまり薬草等の植物を中心に、動物や鉱物など、ありとあらゆる自然物の薬効を調べる学問が 尾張名古屋で盛んでした。「雄しべ」「雌しべ」「花粉」という言葉を作った事でも知られる名古屋生まれの近代植物学の 父伊藤圭介の話など盛り沢山。
書物のなかにみる江戸の名古屋と、今の植生などについてのお話。
The first session is an easy-to-understand talk by Mr Takashi Nagata, a nature guide and high school biology teacher about nature and people’s lives in Nagoya in the Edo period.
“Owari Meisho Zue” (“Guide to famous Owari sites”, pre-1868) is a geographical journal that describes the scenic spots, historic sites, customs, local specialities, shrines and temples of Owari province in central Japan with pictures and simple text. Illustrations are by Odagiri Harue, a warrior of the Owari clan and painter.
“Owari Honzougaku” (Owari book of herbal medicine, 1600ー1868) is a study of the medicinal properties of plants, mainly grasses (medicinal herbs), animals, minerals and other natural products. It includes the story of Keisuke Ito, the father of modern botany born in Nagoya, who is also known for coining the Japanese terms 雄しべ（お･しべ）for stamen, 雌しべ（め･しべ）for pistil and 花粉（か￨ふん）for pollen, and much more.
The talk will cover Nagoya in the Edo period as seen in books and the vegetation of the present day.

「名古屋城下図」を読み解く
2nd Lecture
Interpreting the 'Map of Nagoya Castle Town’
from the records of religious figures in the Edo period.
名古屋の歴史ファンの間で「名古屋城下図」の名称で知られた城下町名古屋の空間構成を描写する古絵図を読み解きます。
この絵図の絵解きについては、特に伊勢神宮（三重県伊勢市）や国府宮（稲沢市）、さらに津島神社（津島市）の御師（神職兼旅行業者）といった名古屋以外の宗教者に関係する古文書等を組み合わせ、その画像解釈等を行うことで近世城下町としての名古屋の新たな史的側面を探る手法をレクチャーします。
The second lecture will decipher an old illustrated map depicting the spatial structure of the castle town of Nagoya, known among Nagoya history buffs by the name 'Nagoyajōkazu'.
In particular, we will explore new historical aspects of Nagoya as a castle town in the early modern period by combining old documents related to religious figures outside Nagoya, such as the Ise Jingu Shrine (Ise City, Mie Prefecture), the Kokufugu Shrine (Inazawa City) and the Goshi (priest and traveller) of the Tsushima Shrine (Tsushima City), and interpreting their images.

千枝大志さん（中京大学大学院等非常勤講師）
1976年栃木県生まれ。中京大学文学部学芸員兼オープンカレッジ講師、同朋大学仏教文化研究所所員など経て現在は、中京大学大学院・中京大学・三重短期大学の非常勤講師と同朋大学仏教文化研究所客員所員の所属で活動してみえます。専攻は歴史学 (中近世の都市史・社会経済史・宗教史)・博物館学・アーカイブズ学。博士 (文学)。
主な著書としては、単著に『中近世伊勢神宮地域の貨幣と商業組織』岩田書院、編著書に『これであなたも歴史探偵！ 歴史資料調査入門』風媒社、共著に『岩波講座 日本歴史 中世3』岩波書店、『名古屋の江戸を歩く』風媒社等がある。「ブラタモリ」「ネーミングバラエティー 日本人のおなまえっ!」(NHK)、「ゴリ夢中」(中京テレビ) 等のテレビ番組にも出演経験あり。

3rd Lecture
About the "eco-money of the Edo period" in the Tokai region.
江戸時代における東海地域の地域通貨を紹介します。実は地域通貨史からみると、名古屋にはハガキやキッテといった独特な文化があるのです。
This lecture introduces the local currencies of the Tokai region in the Edo period. From the perspective of local currency history, Nagoya has a unique culture of paper money and stamps.
The currency of the Owari clan and Yamada Hagaki (the first paper money system in Japan, a type of private money, was named after the former name of the city of Ise, Yamada. It was issued by the Onshi and merchants under the control of the Yamada Administration Bureau from the 1610s until 1875).
